If there were to be Professions or Jobs, what areas/fields, professions and jobs would you like to see? How would you go about entering into that profession, area/field or job?

  • Weaponsmith, my personal favorite.
  • Armorsmith
  • Tailor
  • Medicinal
  • Jeweler
  • Architect
  • Some prof for furniture crafting, was Architect in SWG but that name never really fit properly in my opinion.
  • Farmer, growing crops.
  • Rancher, raising livestock.
  • Artificer, or engineer, or something for tinkering with the relic stuff.
  • Hairstylist! (half joking, half serious. see image designer in SWG)
  • Storyteller, for crafting quests and player events.
  • Mayor, or city planner.
  • Chef
  • Merchant, for all crafters to dabble in but some may choose to excel in.
  • Miner
  • Fisherman
  • Scavenger
  • Huntsman, good for combat characters to dabble in and would pull resources off of kills.
  • Dancers, musicians, entertainers, that whole social lot.

My list is very heavily influenced by SWG but that is where I had the most experience with crafting. As for entering a specific field, I always like the training and learning from the masters kind of thing. Be that NPCs or even players training each other what they know.

Great list skelar! If you don't mind I am going to stand on your shoulders and qualify each profession on a 4 tier scale. I also added some titles to help classify.

1)Staple - profession that should be standard for any MMORPG (sandbox, themepark, etc...)
2)Desireable - profession that I would very much want to see in OOM
3)Favorable - profession that could be implemented in a sandbox like OOM.
4)Niche, sub of * - profession that can probably be integrated as a subtitle of another profession

  • Weapon-smith [Staple]

  • Armor-smith [Staple]

  • Agriculturalists [Desirable]
    1. Farmer, growing crops. [Niche]
    2. Rancher, raising livestock.[Niche]
    3. Animal husbandry [Niche]

  • Tailor [Desirable]
    1. Jeweler [Niche]
    2. Hairstylist [Niche]

  • Medicinal [Favorable]
    1. Drug maker [Niche]
    2. Chef [Niche]

  • Architect [Desirable]
    1. Mayor, or city planner. [Desirable]
    2. Storyteller (Quest creator) [Desirable]

  • Artisan (non-combat related) [Favorable]
    1. Furniture crafting [Niche]
    2. Merchant [Niche]

  • Explorer/Extractor[Desirable]
    1. Miner [Niche]
    2. Fisherman [Niche]
    3. Scavenger [Niche]
    4. Hunter [Niche]

  • Entertainers. [Niche]

Let me know how you (whoever is reading this) might classify or add to them.

Nice list Vanpry. If OOM has even half of what we are looking for, I would be stoked. :)

I would be interested on how many professions you'd be able to have, because I would like to be a farmer, breeder and animal tamer (Using Vanprys list)
Im not sure on how many professions you were allowed on other games, but I wouldnt reccomend being all of them at the same time, as it would ruin trade, since you could just make your own things

I am with you on that. There has to be some sort of limit.

I'm with you, I hope there has to be some "skill" limit so one person couldn't be every thing. I like creating alts even if it is just a fisherman alt with minimum combat skills or a true crafter that is a town sitter, or the gatherer.
